As the 2019/2020 state budget nears approval and key bills advance in support of early childhood, we are excited about the momentum that continues to grow for young children and their families. This month we are highlighting the strong alignment of state level priorities that have the potential to increase funding and resources to meet local needs identified by the community for our youngest children and their families. We are also showcasing some recent First 5 activities and recognition of staff member Beth Reeves-Fortney.

With all that is happening in support of young children and families, we have a lot to celebrate! On June 7, we helped launch the MY Town Summer Children's Museum Pop-up at the CSUMB Salinas Center for Arts and Culture in partnership with CSUMB, TAMC, Salinas Public Library (City of Salinas), Hijos del Sol and MY Museum. Over 1,500 children, parents, caregivers and guests participated in the grand opening. In addition to the exhibit, visitors enjoyed face painting, storytime, art, music, dancing, Potter the Otter, and the First 5 California Express. We would like to thank Assemblymembers Mark Stone and Robert Rivas, Anna Velazquez from Senator Anna Caballero's office, Supervisor and Commissioner Chris Lopez, Monterey County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Deneen Guss, Commissioner Cristina Sotelo, and Commission Chair Julie Drezner for helping open the event or reading at storytime to celebrate 20 years of early childhood in Monterey County.

This FREE exhibit will remain open through July 21, 2019. Learn more about the hours of operation and help us spread the word to our community by accessing the museum's flyers here.

Don't miss photos from the event here!
