With early childhood accessibility on the minds of our elected officials at all levels of government, we want to make sure one thing is remembered-quality is important.

One example of how our collective work focuses on building quality services and systems is through our Technical Assistance for Child Care Centers, also known as the TA Project. On a recent site visit to TA programs, First 5 Commissioner Julia Pederson, MD noted that "through close relationships, guidance, mentorship, and personal investment, First 5 consultants have helped to shape high quality programs at the centers. This allows centers to provide invaluable knowledge for children and families. After seeing the impact of the TA program, it made me want to figure out how to expand this program to include other centers within Monterey County."

This month our newsletter includes the application announcement for the eleventh round of Technical Assistance Projects for Child Care Centers. We are also highlighting local recognition of the importance of early childhood and our annual presentation to the Board of Supervisors.

Ultimately, one message was critical; the research has been done and the answers are clear--we know what works to support children and their families. Sadly, early childhood and prevention services have never been adequately funded and this lack of funding is the biggest barrier to achieving our vision. READ MORE
