Beth Reeves-Fortney Honored ' Mental Health Training Series ' Expanded Services in South County ' Social Media Thanks

Over the years, we have learned more and more about the importance of mental health for children and their families. According to the Center on the Developing Child from Harvard University, the science of child development shows that sound mental health is built early in life and shapes the architecture of the developing brain. High school graduation rates can improve and homelessness and incarceration rates can be reduced if we pay attention to children's environments and experiences early in life. Interventions can also help with the effects of stressful family experiences, including immigration.

First 5 Monterey County has spent the last 20 years as a voice for young children and families, especially around mental health. Read on to learn about this work as well as the recognition of our Director of Programs, Beth Reeves-Fortney, for her contributions to mental health. We have also included information on the recent expansion of Early Childhood Collaborative services to South County and social media praise for local service providers.
