Census 2020 "All Kids Count Week" with First 5 Monterey County

This week, August 3-7, 2020, First 5 Monterey County is joining together with other local partners to promote the 2020 Census and why families should count all children to ensure a better future for Monterey County.

Responding to the Census is safe, secure, and confidential. Unfortunately, children ages 0-5 are often missed which has a negative impact on their future. An accurate count helps ensure that our County is provided the funding it needs over the next 10 years to support  essential resources such as hospitals, childcare, food assistance, schools, and early childhood development.

Below is a list of virtual opportunities for local families, to engage and learn about the importance of the Census. Hopefully, people feel inspired and encouraged to immediately fill out their Census. Follow and share posts from our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts.

Activities to look out for:

• Daily activities from the Census activity book in both English and Spanish to help engage children in fun Census-related activities. 
   
• Children who will describe the Census and the different ways families can complete it!
   
• Children will be singing the "Everyone Counts!" song in English and Spanish to help children understand the Census and why everyone counts.
   
• "Everyone in my Family Counts; Todos en mi Familia Cuentan'' Drawing! Encourage the children in your household to get involved in the Census by drawing a picture of their families. Upload the photo and tag us on social media or email it to info@first5monterey.org. We will randomly select families all week long to receive a fun, kid-friendly gift basket!
   
• Thursday, August 6, 9:30-11am: The Breadbox Recreation Center will be distributing food to the community. At the event, families can also pick up a Census 0-5 Activity bag filled with a book, activity sheets, and crayons to encourage families to complete the Census.

Don't forget to fill out the Census! There are several ways to complete the Census:

• Complete the Census via phone
  • English: 844-330-2020
  • Spanish: 844-468-2020
     
• Respond via mail by filling out the form that was sent to your home address
